Quite Ready For Prime-Time

I have begun writing music for another TV ad. Details later. Tonight, my song "Going Whichever Way the Wind Blows" will be featured on ABC's Men In Trees. Check local listings. The Shriner's Hospital commercial that I scored is airing now. Look for an opening shot of a young girl saying "I shouldn't be talking to you." The spot was directed by renaissance man Sam Jones. His book of photographs, The Here and Now is [...]

If It Makes You Happy, Form a Band

OCT 1: My friend Jeff Trott is coming to the Puzzle Tree Studio today. We will work on writing songs together. Some of you may remember Jeff as lead guitarist in my touring band in the mid 90's. Others may know him from Wire Train & World Party. Or for his collaborations with Sheryl Crow. Jeff has co-written and co-produced many of her biggest hits. Sing along: "If It Makes You Happy", "Everyday is a [...]

All You Need Is “Love” In Your Title

The DROGE & SUMMERS record has been bumped again. I have been asked by a very talented director friend (and certified member of the 'in crowd'), to create music for a "very very short film with blatant product placement". Feast of Love opens in theaters on Sept 28. This film from Acadamy Award winning director Robert Benton stars Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear and features the title track from my latest album Under the Waves [...]

Who’s In Your Five?

I wrote and recorded music for two national T-Mobile TV spots that are airing now. My song "Under The Waves" and a song I co-wrote and produced for Jaime Wyatt called "Wicked World" are included on the soundtrack album for the film Feast of Love. The album also features tracks by The Frames, Jeff Buckley, Corinne Bailey Rae, M. Ward and more. Album comes out on 8/7/2007. Film opens in Sept. I just completed the [...]

The New Phone Books Are Here

Updating with my new iPhone. Crazy. This month I am finishing music for two TV commercials. I'll update with air dates. They are both very cool and hillarious. Around the 10th, work will resume on a short documentary. Mmmmm...ambient guitar. Also been into planning and writing phase for the DROGE & SUMMERS record.

Poor Man’s Charlie, Keith and Bill

The Gary Yerkins record is mixed. It was a treat mixing on the new Trident desk. Was nice to take my time. Gary lives in Baltimore, so I would work, then upload a ref, get his comments and proceed. Rinse, lather, repeat. I love this record. Gavin Lurrsen will be mastering it soon. Attention is now turned towards the band Walkie Talkie. If you have been tuning into the "All Droge News Compendium" since a [...]

Plug It In, Plug It In

IN STUDIO: Work continues on the Gary Yerkins album. Harmonies abound: Elaine and I have been singing background vocals and Gary's x-bandmate Cathy Richardson flew up from San Fran to lend her voice to the hubbub. Cathy is the voice behind the old Glade commercials, "Plug it in, plug it in." Remember those? A serious song tumor that one. It's funny 'cause we used to get calls from friends wondering if it was Elaine's voice [...]

Watching “White Balloons” On the Tube

Look out for the song "White Balloons" on the TV Show, Veronica Mars. I produced this track for Portland singer-songwriter, Stephen Ashbrook and co-wrote it with Stephen & Elaine Summers. The song will appear twice in the episode airing tonight. While work continues on the Gary Yerkins album, Elaine and I are making plans to cut an album toghether later this year. The project will likely be called DROGE & SUMMERS and will feature a [...]

Trident Series 80 5.1 Surround Console

New console is up and running. I love it. Sounds amazing. First task for the desk is mixing the Gary Yerkins record. (There is some tracking left to tend to on a few of the songs too, which will take place here at The Puzzle Tree Studio and in Chicago.) I'll try and get some pictures of the new board up as soon as I can come up for air. a great horned owl approves [...]
